Health and Vaccinations

Calving (February-March)

Stick Out Your Tongue and Say "Aahh"We monitor our cows during calving as we are able.  We typically bring cows into the barn for calving.  Calves are brought in to be dried off and weighed.  We then place them in a stall for 24 hours with Mom.  Before we turn them back out, we tag them with Mom's number. 

Spring (May/June)

    All Animals - recieve a health check by our Veterinarian and receive vaccinations for:
    • Anthrax Version B
    • Blackleg Version 8
    • Rabies (for all adults and calves 3 months or older)
    • Parasites - Ivermectin

    Calves
    • Bovishield Gold 5
    • Hair samples for DNA testing 

 Summer - Fly and Parasite Conrol (as needed)

    All  
    • Ultra Boss or similiar pour on
    • Ivermectin (2 dose per animal per year maximum)

 Fall (September)

Calves not old enough in spring - Rabies Vaccination
All Calves - Weigh, Wean, Tag, and Tattoo
Cows - Pregnancy Check
All receive a checkup from our Veterinarian

Veterinary Services

We rely on our local veterinarian for assistance during Spring and Fall checks as well as when any significant health issues arise.

Feed

Hay

During the winter and dry periods, our herd's primary staple is good quality large round bales of grass and alfalfa hay.

Creep Feed

Our calves begin receiving free choice creep feed in the spring or early summer.  We make creep feed coninually available until the winter sales are complete.
